A cut Nordmann tree lasts up to ~14 days indoors. Don't believe anyone who says that spruce never dies. Although its needles do not fall off as quickly as, for example, Latvian spruce, this fir is also a real living tree and will start to "wilt" after a short time indoors. Of course, the period is very individual - depending on the room, location, decorations and many other factors, it can last longer.
The Nordmann fir is perfect for homes with small children, as the needles are soft and children cannot hurt themselves.

The Latin name of the spruce is Abies nordmanniana. It was named by Christian von Stevens in honor of his compatriot, the Finnish zoologist Alexander von Nordmann, who headed the Odessa Botanical Garden. Nordmann fir is also known as Caucasian fir.
It is naturally found in the mountains of the southern and eastern Black Sea, for example in Turkey, Georgia, Armenia and Russia. It grows at altitudes of 900-2200m in mountains where the annual rainfall is over 1000mm.
Nordmann fir is a large, evergreen tree in nature – it grows up to 55-60m high with a trunk diameter of up to 2m. The tallest fir trees in the Western Caucasus are 78m and 85m tall, making them the tallest spruce trees in Europe.
The needles of the Nordmann fir are flat, ~1.8-3.5cm long. The upper surface is dark green and glossy, while the underside has two blue-white bands. The needle is blunt and often has a small notch at the tip, but young needles of vigorous young trees may be sharp.
With its beautiful shape and thick needles, the Nordmann fir is one of the most popular Christmas trees. Its needles are more resilient than ordinary spruce needles – when the tree dries out, the needles do not fall off as quickly. A Nordmann fir will last about 2 weeks indoors, but there are cases where it can last up to a month or more under the right conditions.
The Nordmann fir is ideal for allergy sufferers as it does not have the strong aroma of a regular Christmas tree.
In Europe, Nordmann fir is also used for reforestation to reduce deforestation caused by climate change.
Nordmann fir wood is soft and light and is used in general construction, paper production and other applications.
